AECOM Appointed for Golden Jubilee National Hospital Expansion

The multinational engineering firm AECOM has been appointed project manager and cost advisor for the new Elective Care Expansion Programme at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank, near Glasgow. Part of the Scottish Government’s new investment in Elective Care Centres, the project will be delivered in two phases and will provide new and additional state of the art ophthalmic and orthopaedic service deliveries.

One of NHS Scotland’s major patient demand areas is the care for patients needing cataract surgery and the new unit will deliver improved services and facilities in regards to that matter. The expansion will also help reduce patient waiting times and enhance the overall experience.

Phase one of the development will see a new Ophthalmology unit with its own outpatient consultation and pre-operative assessment areas, cataract procedure rooms, and an admin area. Then, the vacated theatres will be refurbished and additional general surgery theatres and a Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) will be created. Furthermore, the second phase will bring additional theatres for orthopaedic surgery and support accommodation.

AECOM won the appointment after its submission through the Health Facilities Scotland Framework for consultancy services and the new project builds on the company’s relationship of five years with the Golden Jubilee Foundation for which it has delivered Boiler Upgrading projects and MRI suite redevelopment, as well as master planning services.

“We are delighted that AECOM has been chosen to be at the forefront of delivery of the Golden Jubilee’s new Elective Care Centre plans. The project wins underline our excellent working relationship with the Golden Jubilee Foundation,” said Robert Rankin, Health Facilities Scotland Framework Manager for AECOM.

Kier Construction is officially delivering the project that is planned to open in 2020.
