Charcon Excels at Trafalgar Place Residential Project

One of the UK’s leading integrated building products manufacturers, Charcon, has – if you’ll excuse the pun – paved the way for a new residential project in London’s Elephant and Castle. The firm has supplied Trafalgar Place with some 3,500 sq m of hard landscaping materials as part of a £1.5bn scheme of regeneration taking placing across the capital.

Charcon Construction Solutions has, for a number of years, taken pride in delivering intelligent, prefabricated building solutions to clients and projects up and down the country. With competencies in ground, flooring, access and structural frame manufacture, the company is able to significantly speed up contractor schedule by manufacturing all manner of components off site. As such, the company works across a variety of different sectors – public and private – including: residential, healthcare, education, industrial and commercial.

The specific phase of development has witness the conversion of an office block into 235 new homes. Charcon acted as chief advisor and supplier of hard landscaping materials and was tasked to produce something that would seamlessly combine public and communal areas as well as provide an established green space.

In accordance with the specification of Architects dRMM, Charcon provided 1,80 sq m of its popular Andover Textured flag design and a block paving made up of a blend of they different greys. The paving design was laid across the all the main tree-line areas within Trafalgar Place’s footprints in five, distinct block size thus forming a highly attractive mesh. In addition, the company supplied a further 1,050 sq m of Appalachian flag paving for the private, upper courtyard podium. The paving is made up of around 60% recycled or reclaimed materials and therefore meets the project’s demanding sustainability ambitions.

By no means an off-the-shelf job, Charcon also created a bespoke paving for Trafalgar Place which has since been named ‘Special’ Appalachian Leemoor. Specialists from the firm employed a double process of manufacture prior to sand-blasting so as to produce a more polished finish comprising distinct, contrastive textures that would be timeless in the years ahead.

The project has been described by Boris Johnson, Mayor of London as a triumph of aesthetics and praised for its design innovation and, furthermore, its longevity. Doubtless, Charcon played a large part in such high praise.
