KP Manufacturers Upgrade Logistics Operations

KP Manufacturers Upgrade Logistics Operations

KP the UK snack producer has been a part of the Intersnack Group since 2013. The business works to manufacture and distribute a range of popular snack brands which include McCoy’s, Phileas Fogg, Hula Hoops, Pom-Bears and KP Nuts. KP has around 8,000 people working for them at 30 different sites across the UK and Europe.

As a result of the constant high demand for their products, the company has carried an upgrade of their intralogistics processes. These upgrades have taken place at the snack manufacturer’s Ashby-de-la-Zouche warehouse. This update has led to an increase inthe amount of storage space for pallets.

KP needed to carry out the work as the Ashby-de-la-Zouche warehouse was required as there was no longer the capacity to manage the increasing flow if stock that was moving out of the factory, located adjacent to the warehouse on the site. In order to increase capacity, a number of different solutions were considered, including relocating to a larger unit that would offer them more space. However, KP managed to find a solution that was designed and delivered by Flexi Warehouse Systems. This company is the Systems Division of Narrow Aisle Ltd.

The warehouse initially had a layout which included standard pallet racking accessed by a combination of traditional and counterbalanced forklifts and reach trucks. With the solution that was offered by Flexi Warehouse systems,. The warehouse storage cube has been fitted with an integrated two deep storage system as opposed to the pallet racking and the aisles have been narrowed. Operating at the warehouse will be a fleet of Flexi StorMAX truck units. The warehouse operations will also be managed using a specially developed system that will use a First in Last out principle in order to make the most of the pallet storage efficiency.

The popular snack manufacturer now has a warehouse that can manage the increased volume of product being made without sacrificing their location adjacent to the factory.
