LED Tube Lights Vs Fluorescent Tubes : Personal opinions and preferences are all well and good. But when it comes to the hard facts and science of the debate, there’s really no disputing the clear winner. When comparing and contrasting LED tube lights with conventional fluorescent tubes, LEDs come up trumps in just about every way.

Even when taking into account the initial purchase price, there really is no comparison between the two.

So for those looking to replace their tube lights at any point in the near future, here’s a quick rundown of why exactly LED tube lights represent the ideal choice for any and every application:

  1. LED Replacement Bulbs Are More Efficient

First up, exactly how more efficient LED tube lights are than comparable fluorescent tubes depends entirely on the product purchased and its quality.  More often than not however, you will be looking at efficiency at least 50% higher than that of a similarly capable fluorescent tube. And of course, 50% better efficiency adds up to 50% less energy used.

  1. LED Provide a Directional Light Source

What’s important to remember with a traditional fluorescent tube is that much – sometimes most – of the light emitted effectively goes to waste. The reason being that as a 360-degree light source, the light emitted is fired off in every direction – not just at its intended target. By contrast, LED tube lights can provide a much more directional and therefore effective/and efficient source of light.

  1. Light vs. Heat

One of the biggest differences between fluorescent tubes and LED tube lights is the way in which LEDs use electrical energy to produce light. By contrast, fluorescent lights use heat to create light. Which is not only significantly less efficient, but also results in the production of excessive heat – contributing to a wider lack of efficiency.

  1. LEDs Continue Performing Until Their End-Of-Life

By the time a fluorescent bulb of any kind begins reaching the end of its life, it will typically be emitting around 40% to 50% less light than when it was new.  This kind of lighting technology slowly but gradually declines in performance from day one. On the opposite end of the spectrum, LED tube lights perform at 100% capacity and with 100% efficiency until they reach the end of their life.

  1. LED Replacement Bulbs Have No Mercury

For obvious reasons, any kind of lighting technology that eliminates toxic gases and materials from the manufacturing process can only be a good thing. LED lighting towers over fluorescent lighting in this department – the latter continuing to rely on mercury to operate.

  1. LED Does Not Affect Temperature

Last but not least, in any environment where it is important to keep temperatures consistent and stable, LED tube lights represent a superior choice.  By emitting little to no heat whatsoever, LED tube lights will not adversely affect the temperature in the environment in question. Which is precisely why LED tube lights can be perfect for indoor gardens and contained grow spaces in general.
