Kia GT Set to be Revealed in January

Kia GT Set to be Revealed in January

The highly anticipated Kia GT, the Korean car manufacturer’s first true sports car, is set to be officially unveiled on January 8.

There is not much information available on the car so far, though the leaked information and images from Kia insiders suggest it will be a rear wheel dive with four doors and make up to 400bhp.

The manufacturing giant released a teaser video which shows the car in action during testing at the Nurburgring, where the car is shown to hit speeds of more than 150mph. It seems clear that Kia is taking the production of its first performance car very seriously.

The production of a performance car was first suggested five years ago, though it is only very recently that prototype versions of the GT have been seen in testing.

Heading up the project is Albert Biermann, formerly head of BMW’s M Division, who said earlier this year that the Kia GT will be Kia’s most powerful car in Europe by far.

Currently, Kia sells a 420bhp V8-powered saloon in the US called the K900, and it’s possible that the GT will have a similar output from either the same engine, or something similar.

There’s also rumoured to be a less powerful diesel option in the range, which won’t be as quick but which could appeal more to buyers who want a sporty saloon without high running costs.

Last month, the new Kia Cee’d was spotted in testing ahead of its release next year.

The fresh Cee’d follows on from the recent launch of Kia’s new Rio supermini. Even in this heavy disguise, it’s evident that much of the design of the Rio has been adapted for the new Cee’d to create a homogenous look across Kia’s lineup. Familiar thin LED headlights and a more upright bonnet can be spotted under the wrapping, as can the Korean brand’s trademark ‘Tiger Nose’ grille.
