Bombardier Transportation Delivers New, Driverless Trains for Kuala Lumpur Metro

The Manufacturer of rolling stock, Bombardier Transportation has been working with their Malaysian partner Hartasuma in order to successfully deliver 14 new, driverless Innovia Metro 300 trains to be put into operation by the state-owned company Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.

The new vehicles are expected to be put into operation on the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit Line in Kuala Lumpur The 14 new trains have been delivered to the Malaysian company as a part of a contract which was originally signed in 2012.

The rolling stock manufacturing company has been able to successfully deliver a range of sustainable rail transit solutions to be used as a part of the well-established Malaysian ecosystem over the course of the last 25 years. With the latest successful delivery of 14 driverless Metro 300 trains, hopefully the business relationship will continue to be fruitful in the future. The work over this period to develop the transport ecosystem in Malaysia, and Bombardier’s role in this work is a demonstration of the wealth of knowledge and expertise that has been shown by the manufacturing company.

It is great news of the company that the manufacturing company’s latest, additional Innovia trains have been a part of the expanding urban connectivity throughout Kuala Lumpur and the greater surrounding area. It has been predicted that over the course of the next few years leading up to 2020, the population will grow by as many as ten million residents.

The delivery of these Metro 300 trains is also a milestone for Bombardier, with 374 cars ordered. This makes the order one of the largest Innovia fleets in the world. The company carried out the final assembly and interior design of the four-car vehicles at their Hartasuma Consortium facility which is located in Westport. The Metro 300 trains are able to transport as many as 30,000 passengers each hour in each direction, and are therefore a perfect transport solution for such a rapidly expanding area.
