James Howles Appointed as the Sector Director for Rail

James Howles has been appointed as the sector director for Rail as part of BakerHicks. The multidisciplinary business has made the appointment due to James Howles’ experience. Howles has had senior roles within the rail sector for the last 14 years, and will now be tasked with increasing and improving the diversity of the company’s rail portfolio.

BakerHicks’ portfolio includes some of the largest and most complex rail projects in the UK. These projects include both underground and overground rail locations. For example, one project is the upgrade of Whitechapel Station.

James Howles has joined BakerHicks from his previous position at SNC-Lavalin, which was formerly Interfleet. While working at this company, Howles was the director for the rail infrastructure of the business. His main focus was on the electrification market. Howles has been a part of the rail industry since joining AMEC-Spie, now Colas Rail. Howles joined Colas in 2003 and then went on to deliver a variety of complex and high value rail projects for both White Young Green and AECOM. These projects are located in both the UK and Europe.

James will bring an invaluable level of expertise that has been gained on the Great Western Electrification, Midland Mainline Electrification and North West Power Supply Upgrade projects. Howles’ portfolio also includes major works carried out for Network Rail, London Underground as well as work for contractors and consultants which involved stations, route works, gauging and safety critical surveys. James Howles has also led two successful professional services framework bids as part of the HS2 Ltd project.

BakerHicks was previously Morgan Sindall Professional Services and hopes to continue to improve their company by supporting their rail customer and reaching their key objectives. Howles experience in electrification will help BakerHicks evolve in to new markets and will be a driving force to push the business forward.
