A global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of engines, generators and related technologies has just renewed a three-year contract with Axil Integrated Services to manage its waste streams and maximise its recycling.
Axil works with some of the UK’s best-known brands and was thrilled to win the contract to continue delivering a total waste management services to Cummins Ltd at multiple sites, including Darlington and Stamford, as well as a number of other locations across the UK.
Axil has already helped the global manufacturer maintain its zero-to-landfill target at its Stamford and Darlington sites, and has made savings through improved waste segregation, increased recycling, and reductions in labour costs.
Paul Cooke, Operations Director at Axil Integrated Services, commented: “We are incredibly proud to continue our relationship with Cummins who are recognised as an industry leader around the world.
“We have already achieved cost reductions for Cummins on process waste via improved disposal methods and production improvements.
“We have secured them the best possible value for commodities, such as plastic, cardboard and various metal types. Our introduction of enhanced handling and processing methods, plus improved management of the onsite workforce, has also saved them more than 4,000 man-hours per year.”
Axil will continue to manage a variety of waste streams for the firm, including hazardous materials, paper, plastics, wood, cardboard, oils, metals, and dry mixed recycling.
The on-site waste management team, led by Matt Clayton, helps Cummins realise the value from all of their waste and recycling activities.
This results in a double win for the firm as Cummins avoid being charged for disposal and generate revenue by selling the commodities on the market.
Axil is now working on plans for future initiatives which are designed to make further savings.
Andrew McDonald, Facilities Lead at Cummins Darlington, added: “Cummins has a true commitment to sustainability and Axil continue to be a valued partner in helping us reducing the environmental impact of our facilities.”
