For the first time in the UK a Higher National Certificate and a Higher National Diploma will be on offer for lighting. These courses will be available as part of a partnership between the Lighting Industry Association and the University of South Wales. The partnership was formed between the LIA and the University in July last year and will be able to offer more opportunities for collaboration for the Association to collaborate with the university on teaching and learning.
The Higher National Certificate and Diploma in Lighting Design and Technology that has been created by the LIA and the University of South Wales will be the first qualifications at this level for this industry. Introducing a new qualification should attract new talent to the lighting industry and could also lead to the development of the existing careers in the industry.
The Higher National Certificate and Diploma courses will both be delivered at the LIA Academy which is in Telford as well as at the University campus at Pontypridd. Running the courses in both of these locations means that the cutting edge equipment and facilities in both locations will be used in order to deliver the course. The Modules that will be taught at the Telford site, will be done so by the LIAâs team of expert tutors who have all been awarded Recognised Teacher Status from the USW.
After the students have completed the Higher National Diploma course, they will have the opportunity to go on and complete a full BSc (Hons) in Lighting Design and Technology which is on offer at the University of South Wales.
These new higher education courses can be taken on a full-time or a part-time basis and will be helpful for for those wanting to begin their career in the lighting industry and those wanting to improve their knowledge in order to develop an existing career.
