Liverpool Riverside MP has publically thanked Network Rail for their works to Liverpool Lime Street. No rail services have been able to access Liverpool Lime Street since February 28. All traffic out of and into the station was stopped suddenly after a cutting wall that ran alongside the railway tracks collapsed and closed all access. 200 tonnes of rubble fell on to the line which caused the overhead wires to be brought down.
While Network Rail are working closely with other transport companies including TransPennine Express, Northern, London Midland, Virgin and East Midland Train to keep travelers on the move, engineers have been out on the tracks trying to clear and fix the issue. People previously expected to use the station include commuters, tourists and football supporters.
Work to clear the line and get everything up and running again started last week, on the 4TH March. The stationâs is predicted to reopen to passengers on Thursday, and MP Louise Ellman has visited the site to see the progress. Four lines at the bottom of the cutting were affected by the wall collapse as well as the disrupted wiring.
Network Rail workers are said to be working constantly to assure that there is the smallest disruption possible to commuters and people set to use the station. The process to get the station open again includes clearing the 4000 tonnes of material placed on the land above the cutting wall, clearing the debris on the tracks which is 10 meters below. After the hazards are removed and the debris is clear the railway tracks need to be repaired before being reopened to trains and passengers.
Network Rail Long term plans are to invest in the nations railway systems to provide faster, longer and more frequent trains as well as more reliable infrastructure and better services for users, more focused at stations. This renovation is part of the 2014 to 2019 plans to invest £40 billion in Great Britainâs rail systems.
