British Marine Appoints New President David Pougher

British Marine Appoints New President David Pougher

British Marine has appointed David Pougher as its new President with immediate effect.

The Principal of Deep Consultancy will take over the prestigious role from the outgoing Fiona Pankhurst who has held the position for the last two years.

Pankhurst led to group forward during her time in charge and played a key role in the unveiling of a new, stronger identity for British Marine that will continue to stand out in the context of modern brands in the marine sector.

Launched in 2015, the new brand was launched at the conclusion of a year-long exercise that was overseen by Pankhurst in house, along with the Management Board of the organisation.

The new identity is said to provide a strong connection between the group’s members and the British reputation for innovation, excellent design and quality.

With this in place, British Marine is now able to promote all the best things about the British marine industry.

Pankhurst is to remain on the group’s management board as immediate Past President which will make sure that the strength of purpose she developed will continue.

New President Pougher has been involved in the marine industry in the UK for more than 35 years, having retired from his role as Divisional Manager at Yamaha three years ago.

Since then he founded Deep Consultancy, a marine business consultancy firm which specialises in SME’s. He maintains business interests in the PWP (Personal Watercraft Partnership), Selva Marine/Marlin from Italy and Yamarin Boats from Finland.

Over the years he has been involved extensively with British Marine, both as a member of the organisation and also through various British Marine committees and groups such as the British Marine Management Board, the British Marine Boat Shows Board, the Boating Environment & Facilities Committee and the British Marine Engines & Equipment Association.

On taking over his new role, Pougher commented that he feels honoured to be the President of British Marine.

The new President said: The organisation provides members with invaluable support, opportunities and benefits to help grow their businesses and it does a great job in raising the profile of the UK marine industry.

My fellow British Marine members and the team at Marine House have my commitment, focus and drive to assist, support and protect over the next two years.

Pougher also outlined his intentions for the organisation over the next five year period, stating that he wants to visit every British Marine association, every region and as many committee and individual members as he possibly can.

He added that he is looking forward to his new work with the organisation’s staff, the British Marine Boat Shows team, the Management Board and British marine members, and hopes that their work together will greatly benefit the industry.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive of British Marine, Howard Pridding, took the opportunity to thank outgoing former President Pankhurst for her commitment and dedication to the organisation during her time at the helm.

The successes she has helped to achieve will drive the industry forward. I am delighted to welcome David as the new President and am looking forward to working with him.
